This is the 1981 version, celebrating the seventh medal, this time won at at a competition in Brussels. 1981 marked 27 years since Jack Daniel’s had last entered a gold medal competition. In 1956, the sons of Jack Daniel’s nephew, Lem Motlow, sold the business to the Brown-Forman company, who increased production tenfold. Despite the change in ownership, the upper management of the distillery has remained a family operation at Jack Daniel’s, and they opted to enter the Brussels competition in order to demonstrate their commitment to continued quality despite their increasing financial success.
